Mapping My World: Day 2

In day two of of our Easter Holiday Course, children worked with artist Shiraz Bayjoo to complete their final piece – a personalised identity map of themselves and their world.

An A3 board was prepared with a background colour

We discussed our ideas from yesterday with new friends

Then worked on the board using techniques learned the previous day.

Using sponge rollers Dripping and pouring wet paint

We added many layers building up an abstract background and setting the mood for our collage.

The pieces changed and emerged through the morning.We then began to lay out our collaged items, experimenting with different compositions. We used, photographs of our special items, maps, family photos, memento’s and images researched from the internet.

When we were happy with the design we stuck it down and tinted the photocopied items with small brushes and watery paint.

We then varnished the whole piece with a medium.

The final works were full of meaning and we were very proud of them.

When then discussed all our pieces, how they represented us as a group and displayed them in a small exhibition for our parents.
