Mapping My World: Day 1

Artist Shiraz Bayjoo led children in a two day exploration of identity, collage and paint.

Shiraz introduced the children to collage artists and techniques

Children had brought in a collection of personal items with significance to them, which we copied and photographed for use in our collage.

We cut up images of our objects and combined them with maps, travel brochures and magazines to tell stories of parts of our life.

We experimented with composition, laying out and combining images

After lunch we discussed abstract painting

Shiraz demonstrated different painting techniques.

Then we had a creative explosion and tested out lots of ideas.

In day two we will combine all these experiments into one large piece, collaging our stories onto a painted backdrop.
