Sculpting with paper

Artist Ania Bas is working with children at Dundonald Primary School this term on project to make a new children’s picture book. She will help the children develop characters, storyline and  backgrounds.

She will explore collage, painting and paper sculpting in both 2 and 3 dimensions. Stories will be inspired by music and the children will invent new languages for their characters.

We began with exercises to develop our drawing skills.

We explored characters through simple paper sculptures.

We drew and cut out 4 chunky symbols  – our initial, things we are good and bad at and our dreams.

IMG_6708 IMG_6711 IMG_6716 We had to make the 4 elements join together and stand independently, without glue or tape.IMG_6719 IMG_6723 IMG_6728 IMG_6730 IMG_6732 IMG_6733 IMG_6735 IMG_6736 IMG_6737 IMG_6738 IMG_6739 IMG_6740 IMG_6741 IMG_6742 IMG_6743 We then used the same technique to start developing a new character.IMG_6747 IMG_6753 IMG_6755 IMG_6758 IMG_6763 IMG_6766 IMG_6770 IMG_6771 IMG_6772

My daughter is really enjoying art club and likes the fact she isn’t pressured.
