Mapping Merton Park – collaborative painting

The last 2 weeks at Merton Park Art Club we have been working in groups to create a large memory map based on the work we have been doing this term. The work was based on 2 walks we made around our local area.

Each group took an area and planned a collage with information and drawings collected over the term.

They painted an abstract background together with acrylic paint using colours and shapes they fought would fit with their area. We used thick board so the pieces would not warp.

The next stage was to collage on top of the background.

Then we tinted the black and white, photocopied images with watercolour, to help them ‘make friends’ – as Puja said,  with the rest of the picture!

We then gave everything a coat of thin varnish, to make them shine.
