Art of the Game – Day 2

On day 2 of The Art of the Game – our summer Art course for Children devised by artist Sarah Carne we began by sorting and arranging the numbers into a board.

It was easy to see the mistakes we had made! But we found solutions for all the little glitches!

We then began taping it together – we needed another system – and good team work!

Our next job was to design and make some snakes.

Our ideas were great.

We worked in pairs to make giant versions based on our designs – we picked letters out of hat to see who worked together – this was the only game of chance!

The team spirit was growing and our giant snakes came together quickly and looked great.

We worked so hard while the thunder cracked outside!

We then released the snakes onto the board! An exciting moment!

The real thinking began when we began to work out the rules of the game. Players would move around the board by asking questions and making decisions – no chance involved. The children (decision makers) would decide if you could go up or down based on the answer to the questions.

We used decision trees based on the ideas we came up with the day before to devise questions and possible answers.

Should children be bought enormous comfy beds?

Should all wars end?

Should Children be able to stay up and get up whenever they like?

Should all children have a swimming pool?

Should Brussell Sprouts be banned?

Should everything be free?

Should children be in charge? The final tasks were to make question cards….and a dice!

We then had a practice before our parents came.

It worked! And our parents loved it. I think we made them think a bit too!

We had so much fun, made something beautiful and thought about some really tricky stuff as well. The best example of really good Art!
