Put yourself in the picture

Our Key Stage One children at Pelham School Art club have started a little project on Portraiture encouraging themselves to look at themselves and each other in a variety of different ways.

The children began by dressing up and drawing each other wearing a hat of their choice. They used mirrors and drew each other.

They then used a photographic image of themselves, cut in half to help them observe features closely.DSC_0353

They drew in the second half of the portrait.DSC_0360

They then went on to make a painted version of themselves dressed as a character – it happened to be World Book Day so we were already dressed up! The children thought about what else to include in their picture to say something more about the character. They looked at portraits from the National Portrait Gallery for inspiration.

The children went on to explore collage with their portraits. They cut out some of their own work and mixed it with images cut from magazines to make a picture about themselves

Hidden in the picture, like treasure  was a little secret reference to themselves. I wonder if you can find them – some are more obvious than others!
