Fleeting Images: Action and Animation – course 2, day 2
In day 2 of our second summer course we continued to think about the extraordinary acton of the human body. To see day one or course 1 click the blue links.
We began with a reflection on the previous day’s work, then Viyki explained how to translate yesterdays experiments into a flick book.
We then looked at some example flick book animations. We calculated how many drawings were needed to create 3 minutes of animation – it was about 6000…we needed to get drawing!
The links to the you tube films we watched are below in case you want to take a look!
A Brief History of Pretty Much Everything
We then got going on our own little books. It was hard to get the sequencing and positioning correct to make it work!
As we finished we played a fun game of consequences to create new, crazy characters
We then shared our flick book animations
After lunch we decided to work BIG again. We also worked in teams as we had spent the morning on tiny individual pieces.
The sun had been out all morning so we used it to experiment with our shadows to create large scale cut out figures that were slightly distorted.
We created poses and drew round our shadow.
We used chalks, pastels and chubby crayons to colour the figures and some strange new people apeared!
We used our engineering skills to make them stand up.
The last activity of the day was another team challenge to make life size figures out of paper and tape. They would have to climb on the climbing frame – just like we had been going in our break times!
Finally we displayed all our hard work for our parents to see and gave them a tour when they came to collect us.
Another great two days of fun, experimentation, play and ingenuity!
