More marks to music

Last year I worked with a group of children on a session exploring the links between art and music.

I explored the same theme with children from Pelham School’s After school club this week.

After experimenting with marks on musical staves thinking about speed, mood and feeling we made some collaborative paintings whilst listening to different pieces of music noting the effect the music had on our bodies and the marks we made.

Sometimes the marks were delicate and jumpy

Sometimes we got our whole bodies involved!

We created some lovely effects as the paint created layers.

Sometimes the lines and shapes were more important. A shorter piece of music meant that our paper wasn’t as full!

We used different implements, sponges, thick and thin brushes.

Here are the final pieces. Can you imagine the sounds, speed and mood of the music we heard?

And don’t they look like the work of some of the worlds most famous artists?
