All Children Are Artists

The Children's Meal by Pablo Picasso (1903)

The Children’s Meal by Pablo Picasso (1903)

Picasso said that, ‘All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.’

We don’t think he was talking about children’s skills. Rather their glorious, questioning and creative  vision of the world and its possibilities. A way of seeing life that the pressures of study, society and work can change as we get older.

Sometimes children feel that to be good at art they have to be able to create an accurate likeness. They have an idea that art is about making pictures and forms that are copies of things. This can quickly bring them to the conclusion that ‘I’m not very good at it’, or that it’s just not exciting.

Technical skills and abilities are of course important, but we believe that passion, curiosity, and the freedom to let your imagination soar are where everything begins. These qualities are the engine of creativity. It’s in developing children’s creativity, that they acquire new skills and techniques and explore different ways of expressing themselves.
