If you go down to the woods today….

You were sure of a BIG surprise!

Artist and forest school teacher Philippa Snell led a wonderful birthday party for Lucas

We were treated to the best of British winter weather – cold, crisp and sunny. Perfect for a fun afternoon of making in the woods.

Philippa taught us how to build a Teepee and then we worked together to make our own dens

We collected our own wood

and chopped it to size

We experimented with lots of different techniques

We stopped for hot sausages and tried out our shelters for comfort!

After some free running about and a game of ‘man-hunt’ we made some mud!

…and learnt how to make a mud face to release the spirit of the tree!

Hot chocolate to warm our cold hands and back to work!

We then had a tour of our creations.

As the sun went down we gathered to learn how to make a staff to bear a lantern

Then we gathered with our lanterns for the all important birthday cake!

The perfect day for our much loved wild child Lucas!Thank you everyone for sharing in this great day and for all your very generous gifts!
