Exploring Autumn festivals with KS1

Louise and Lana have been exploring the creative potential of Autumn this term.

We started off by using natural materials to ‘draw faces’ as part of our half term focus on Exploring Drawing to get us started. (click the links to see previous projects.)

As we got closer to half term we combined lots of skills to make Halloween cards, spider webs and gorgeous little spider sculptures with google eyes!

We painted art straws and made them into a web.

Then used polystyrene balls and pipe cleaners to make spider sculptures.

Little fingers were working hard!

After half term we used wax resist techniques to make wonderful firework scenes.

We created a colourful background using wax crayon, then painted over the top.

We scratched through the paint to make firework scenes then layered with glitter for accents.

The children used colour with great expressive effect.

Created distance by layering different media.

There were some strong compositions and warm tones in these spectacular works.

This one really conjures up the movement of a sparkler!
