Paint the Great Outdoors – day two
Day 2 of our Painting the Great Outdoors course saw artist Matthew Krishanu continue to inspire the children in observing their surroundings and using their imagination to explore the Great outdoors. To see the results of DAY ONE click the link
We began the sunny morning with some warm up drawing activities to get our fingers and minds moving
We drew with one continuous line, and with our wrong hand.
With some very pleasing resullts
After working on a very grand scale yesterday
We began to work with postcards and water colours on a tiny scale.
We then experimented with watered down acrylic paint and oil pastels on calico to create some small textile pieces. We learnt how to mix the two different media with a resist technique and enjoyed how the pastels changed in texture when they were layered with paint.
Groups worked with artist and illustrator Millie Knight to create some little sketch books where they explored making characters from found materials
Turning leaves into people and sticks into dragons was lots of fun too
We then explored how to use drippy paint
And used a canvas board to create a painting of our own choice, inspired by our surroundings or using our imagination. Or both.
We painted onto our primed boards from yesterday, experimenting with how to layer colour and texture
We painted portraits of a tree
We began to group our work in our own little display area. And get ready to show our work to our parents and visitors.
When we put it all on show it was amazing to see what we had achieved.
We took a tour with Matthew and then toured our parents.
We look forward to another two days of painting the great outdoors next week in a new location.
