At our second January workshop, What Happens Next? we explored how artists can tell stories without words.
Artist, Chrys Allen, with the help of Rudi and his guitar, took us on a imaginative journey to create our own storytelling artwork.
We began by looking at some intriguing paintings from artists such as Vermeer, Klee, Hopper and Rego, and making up stories to go with them.
We then listened to some music, drawing the pictures that it created in our minds.
As the tone and style of the music changed, our pictures did too.
After lunch we swapped the stories that we’d created in the morning in a lucky dip and made up storyboards from them.
We then developed paintings from our story boards. Some of us concentrated on a single scene.
And some told the whole story in a single picture.
We shared our pictures and stories with each other at the end of the day, but were so busy talking that we forgot to take a photo!
