Inspired by a family day at the Whitechapel Gallery‘s Hannah Hoch exhibition last year; at Merton Park after school art club we decided to begin a project on puppets by looking at Hannah Hoch and the Da Da movement and create a little ‘happening’ of our own.
We chose from a selection of famous paintings from Art History books, cut them out and stuck them on board ready to create a new character. We would bring those old paintings to life again!
After mounting our chosen images onto box card we were ready to use a craft knife to cut them out (with careful supervision of course!)
We experimented with impromptu performance and the ‘happening’ began.
Next week we will add words and music to complete our slightly off the wall and unconventional performances! We may even use our group paintings that we made last week in response to music as a backdrop for our theatre…?
